Wager's Awards:

During the summer of 1996, the neophytes to this toller
world, ventured off to meet other toller owners at a
regional breed show called a Back Yard Classic. This
event was hosted by Sue Dorscheid  and Mike Elmergren
at their home in Rosendale,Wisconsin. There we met many
wonderful people, like Sue, Patty Beren, and the late,
great Toller enthusiast, Evelyn Williams. When Wager
was awarded Best Puppy - we were hooked
on showing him!

From that time on we have attended the Back Yard
Classics and National Specialties faithfully where we continue
to meet wonderful Toller-focused people, like Sue Van Sloun,
Peggy and  Jack Park, Laurie Geyer, Jane Billman and Theo Gray, LeeAnn Gleason, Jean Gilroy, Eric Johnson, Debbie Gates, Tammy Skillman, Donna McClellan, Julie Hanson, Marile Waterstraat and John Hamilton, Diane Semper, Lorraine Frendling, Jodi and Mike Petry, Heather Green, Terry and Amy Coughlin, Pat and Larry Kerr, Dee Nichols, Cathy Thompson, Marj Dupree, Susan Wright, Gretchen Botner, Rick Richardson - to name only a few. In order to qualify for a U.S. Club Championship you must earn 15 show points which include at least one major win plus demonstrate field and tolling ability. After winning points in various competitions, Wager earned his final championship points when he was awarded Winner's Dog at the Back Yard Classic.  In May of '99, he completed his Canadian Championship in Winnipeg with a Best in Breed win.

He had earlier passed the WC (Working Certificate) test, for tolling and retrieving on land and water. He completed his WCI (Working Certificate Intermediate) at the 1998 National Specialty. He also passed two started level NAHRA (North American Hunting Retriever Association) field and water tests in September of '98.  At the Canadian National Specialty held in Vancouver in June 1999, Wager easily qualified for his Canadian WC.  At the Region 3 & 4 Specialty held in September 1999 in California Wager displayed his mastery in the field and water by passing the WCX (Working Certificate Excellent).

During the past three years he has participated in obedience at our local training classes. This has proved fruitful with him finally passing the third leg (three tests) necessary to get the CD (Companion Dog) title at the 1998 National Specialty. I say finally, because Wager has been known to demonstrate his independence in the obedience ring - right Chase?  In December of 1999, Wager finished his third leg in Winnipeg, qualifying for his Canadian CD.

He has passed his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test, and is registered with TDI (Therapy Dog International), which enables him to make visits to the nursing homes. Since he goes crazy for tennis balls we must be careful with those folks who have tennis balls affixed to the bottom of their walkers!!!

With the completion of breed championships, obedience CDs, and field titles, Wager has qualified for the US NSDTR Club's Rusty Jones Award and the Canadian NSDTR Club's Dobirstein Award.  He has also qualified for the new Versatility Excellent award granted by the NSDTR Club (USA).
