Bet's Story....

Due to changes taking place in the family structure, getting another dog was an idea whose time had come. The cat Tegan had gone to live with Brody in Minneapolis and a Himalayan kitten, named Pumba, joined the household in time for Steph's 18th birthday. The spring of 1998 witnessed the demise of the old black lab, Sable. Summer came and Wager had no playmate at home, just a neighbor golden retriever at the lake. Realizing when fall would arrive Wager would have no running mate, we decided the time was right to make our move. Checking with Peggy Parks proved fruitful as Sailor was bred to Dana Wertenberger's Star and we could get a female from that litter.  After a long ride from Tennessee, Bet arrived at the lake on Labor Day to meet the family, minus Steph who had gone off to college in Bozeman.  What a cute little bundle of fluff this perfectly marked little girl was! By day two we introduced her to the water and she seemed playfully receptive.

In early September we moved back to town for the school year. Bet has proven to be a good traveler for the shows and trials she and Wager are entered in.  As a pup, a person who has judged Tollers commented on what good structure she has. Time will tell. She got off to a good start in February in her debut in the show ring she took Best

Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in the Sporting Group. In May in Winnipeg she took Best of Opposite Sex to Wager in one show.  See the Awards page for more.

The main thing is she is Wager's best friend.  And she blends in beautifully with our activities.  She enjoys obedience training but LOVES to retrieve!  She likes to socialize with other dogs and people, children especially.  If there were a "gregarious" award, Bet would certainly be in contention
